What to Wear on a Desert Safari in Dubai
By Lead Adventure Tour 1 min read

A desert safari is relaxed and informal, so you do not need anything special. A few simple choices will keep you comfortable in the dunes and at the camp.
The basics
- Light, loose clothing in natural fabrics such as cotton. Loose clothes are more comfortable in the heat and on a bumpy dune drive.
- Closed, comfortable shoes or trainers if you plan to try sand activities. Sand gets everywhere, and flat shoes are easier to walk in.
- Sunglasses and a hat or cap for the day, because the desert sun is bright.
- Sun protection such as sunscreen, even on cloudy days.
For the evening safari
After sunset the desert can feel cooler, especially from late autumn to early spring. Bring a light jacket or sweater for the camp. Wear something you are happy to take photos in, since the sunset is the highlight for many guests.
For the morning tour
Start with light clothing and bring water. The desert heats up quickly, so a hat and sunglasses make the biggest difference.
What to leave behind
- Valuables you do not need. Keep your phone and camera safe and secure on the vehicle.
- Very tight or very short clothing. Comfortable, modest clothing is easiest for sitting in a vehicle and walking on sand.
- High heels. They are not practical on sand.
Quick packing list
- Light clothing, plus a layer for the evening
- Closed shoes or trainers
- Sunglasses and a hat
- Sunscreen
- A small bag for your phone, camera and a bottle of water
